Standards, we have standards

Dave Kearns comments on my previous post regarding identity management being a breeze. He goes even further than I did and states "in fact what we need are fewer standards". (Emphasis is Dave's)

He goes on to say that it's time we "took a long hard look at the standards process and started using existing systems rather than creating new ones".

Well said, Dave.

Maybe we need a standards reduction standard? Just kidding...

I couldn't agree more. Folks have been talking about this in the web services space for quite a while. Vendors have been churning out thousands and thousands of pages of standards. Meanwhile, companies like Amazon are enabling interop using nothing more than good ol' HTTP and a bit of XML sprinkled in.
